Heart Rate Monitor Design Project
This project required me to design and implement a circuit that would display the Electrocardiogram (ECG) and the heart-rate of an individual’s heart on a screen using some electronic chips such as an operational and instrumentation amplifier, isolation chip and some simple electronic components such as resistors, capacitors and batteries. To attain the Raw ECG data of one’s heart, three electrodes were placed on the body with two on the right and the left wrist and one on the right leg. This raw data was then further processed using the analog components mentioned above until a somewhat clear looking ECG was visible. To further determine the heart-rate of the individual this semi-raw data was read and processed digitally using the MATLAB program on a computer. This process was also made safer for the individual by placing an isolation ship between the electrodes connected and the rest of the circuit and the computer that would protect any human in contact from any high voltage spikes.
